Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has admitted he is unsure where Jese Rodriguez's future lies.
The forward has found cementing a startingplace in Real's team difficult since he made his first-team debut, with players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema, James Rodriguez and Isco all blocking his path to the first-team. Jese finished the La Liga season with 28 appearances in the league, scoring five goals and registering six assists.
And when Zidane was asked about the Spaniard's future, he didn't give any clarity over where Jese would be playing his football next season.
"If he wants to leave and play more, I don't know," Zidane told reporters after his side's International Champions Cup defeat to PSG.
"It's our first game. He's here, he played. Everyone's here, that's all I can say now."
Arsenal have been linked with Jese, who was part of Real's youth setup when he joined the club in 2007. Arsenal have been linked with Gonzalo Higuain, who has since moved to Juventus, as well as Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette, who's club reportedly turned down a bid from the North London club.
The Gunners also failed with their bid to sign Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy. Even though they triggered the English striker's release clause, Vardy elected to spurn their advances and sign a new contract with the Premier League champions instead.
Arsenal executive Ivan Gazidis recently told fans that their demands will not dictate the club's transfer policy, and that the club will only sign players if the deal is right.
Looking ahead in this transfer window, we're going to retain that discipline," Gazidis told the club's fanbase.
"We will certainly add players if we think and our manager thinks they add value to our squad.
"We're actively in the market, as is every other club. We won't do it if we don't see the value that's added to our squad."
