Zlatan Responds to Latest Yellow Card and Arsenal Ban: I Thought We Played Rough in England?

Published on: 06 November 2016

Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic was left questioning referee Neil Swarbrick's decision to show him a yellow card during Sunday's much needed 3-1 win over Swansea, sarcastically remarking he thought people liked it 'rough' in the Premier League.

The caution, Ibrahimovic's fifth in domestic games this season, means he will now have to serve a one-match suspension and therefore miss the crucial home game against Arsenal after the international break.

"I thought we played in England, no?" the superstar Swede said when asked about the card for the foul on Swans midfielder Leroy Fer and the resultant ban.

"We play rough in England, that's what I heard. Every time I try to play rough I get a yellow card.

"I don't know why [the referee] gave me a yellow card, maybe I was too tired to hear what he said, but I sacrificed [myself] for the team and if I need to get a yellow I'll take it, I have no problem."

Prior to his name going into the referee's notebook, Ibrahimovic had ended an uncharacteristic six-game goal drought, scoring twice after Paul Pogba's opener to give United a comfortable three-goallead by half-time.

His second of the brace was actually the 400th club career goal of an illustrious career that began back home at Malmo 17 years ago.

His first was an even bigger milestone as far as the Premier League as a whole is concerned - the 25,000th goal scored since English football's top flight was revamped in 1992.

"I thought it was only me who had scored 25,000," he joked.
