Accra Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Ben Mensah has promised fans of the club that the team will win the MTN FA Cup as a reward for their unflinching support for the team.

Accra Hearts of Oak are in the final of the MTN FA Cup and will face bitterest rivals Kumasi Asante Kotoko on October 29th for the coveted trophy.

Hearts are record ten times winners of the competition but have struggled in recent times to win it, however, with the support shown to the team this year the players are confident of winning a trophy for the fans.

Goalkeeper Ben Mensah who has been one of the outstanding performers for the club this season says they want to win the FA Cup for the fans. The fans trooped in massively to support the club on Sunday against Medeama in the Ghana Premier League.

“I thank them a lot especially Western Region supporters – they are very marvelous. What they have been doing for the team is beyond my comprehension,” Mensah told Accraheartsofoaksc.com.

“Anytime we come to this place, their support, the motivation and the way they come to our hotel and talk [to us is very comforting]. They always motivate us before we get into a game. I thank them a lot.

“I am pleading with them to continue to pray for us and they should not get discourage. Definitely, by the end of the season, we will give them a trophy and something to smile about. They have done very well for the team and they need something to smile about so on the 29th October, we will go for the kill.”

The former New Edubiase goalkeeper was however disappointed about their defeat to Medeama, where he pointed out their performance did not reflect the result.

“I think we had a very good game,” he said.

“I can say one of our best away matches because we played so well and deserved more from the game. But it was just lack of concentration or let me say we could not react quickly when there‘s a loose ball in our 18. Those closer to the ball could not react very quickly and the Medeama player had the opportunity just to hit the ball into the net but if we were able to react very quickly, I do not think they would get that goal.”

Accra Hearts of Oak will finish their Ghana Premier league season at home to Inter Allies on Sunday.
