Liverpool Miss Out on Piotr Zielinski as Player Poses with Napoli Scarf

Liverpool's summer-long pursuit of Udinese midfielder Piotr Zielinski is over after he was pictured with Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis.


The Polish international had been on the radar of Jurgen Klopp following a successful two-year loan spell at Empoli, but fellow Serie A side Napoli have stolen a march on The Reds and snapped up the 22-year-old.


Although the club are yet to make an official announcement, websiteCalcio Napolihave published pictures of Zielinski arriving at the airport and at his medical, as well asa photo of him wearing a Napoli scarf alongside de Laurentiis.

He becomes the club's fourth signing behind Lorenzo Tonelli, Emanuele Giaccherini and hot on the heels of Arkadiusz Milik.


Zielinski scored five times last season, making 86 appearances so far in Serie A and alsoplayed a bigpart in Poland's Euro 2016 campaign.


Liverpool have already spent big this summer totalling fees just over £60m as Klopp transforms his under-performing side into a team capable of challenging for the top four once more.

But any top fourchallenge will have to be without Zielinskidespite the club's keen interest in the player.


Klopp isn't expected to make too many more additions to his side, but he does have Marko Grujic to welcome to Anfield after signing him in January and sending him back on loan to Red Star Belgrade.


Napoli meanwhile will find out on Friday who they will face in the group stage of the Champions League after finishing second in Serie A, nine points off Juventus.
