The Spaniard recently acquired Claudio Bravo from Barcelona in a £15.4m deal - a move that pushed Hart further towards the exit door at the Etihad Stadium.

And the 29-year-old is said to be open to the possibility of reducing his £150,000-a-week wage packet in the hope of tempting Liverpool to bring him to Anfield.Hart's potential move up the M62, though, may be over before it has begun.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has already signed shot stopper Loris Karius for £4.7m from FSV Mainz this summer. The former Borussia Dortmund manager also has Simon Mignolet available to him in goal.

And in spite of doubts persisting over Mignolet's consistency and quality among Liverpool's fanbase, as well as Karius is currently sidelined with a broken hand, Klopp is rumoured to be content with his goalkeeping options.

Meanwhile, Everton manager Ronald Koeman dismissed suggestions that Hart was on his list of candidates to become the Toffees' new number one.

The Dutchman has Joel Robles and summer signing Maarten Stekelenburg available to him, and denied reports of a move for Hart during his pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday's home game against Stoke City.

When quizzed over whether the Blues were interested in Hart, Koeman replied: "No, there's no interest."

Hart has been on the books at City since July 2006, making around 350 appearances for the Citizens and winning five trophies during that time.
