New Barcelona Keeper Jasper Cillessen Thought Interest in Him Was a Joke

Jasper Cillessen admits he thought Barcelona's interest in bringing him to the Nou Camp was a joke when his agent first told him.

Cillessen moved to Catalunya last week for £11.1m from Ajax after Claudio Bravo departed Spain to join the Pep Guardiola revolution in Manchester.

The 27-year-old will arrive to contest the number 1 jersey with German Marc-Andre terStegen who played second fiddle to Bravo during the league campaign last term. But the Dutch keeper concedes he was taken aback when his agent informed him of the interest from the Spanish giants.

In an interview withBarca TVCillessen said: 'When my agent told me [about Barcelona's interest] I asked him if it was a joke.[I couldn't believe that] the best club in the world was interested in me.'

He said his aim whilst at the Spanish champions is to win the Champions League as a starter. Barcelona won Europe's most coveted prize in 2015 to go alongside other recent triumphs in 2011 and 2009.

'I want to win titles at Barcelona and I would like to be the goalkeeper that wins the Champions League as a starter'

Cillessen joins Barcelona off the back of a crazy final day in the Eredivisie when PSV snatched the title from Ajax, but he did win three successive league titles with the Amsterdam side between 2012-14.

He could make his Barcelona debut as early as 10th September when they take on Alavesafter the international break. Luis Enrique's side will be looking to build on their 100% start to the campaign which has seen them beat Real Betis at home and Athletic Bilbao on the road.
