2006 World Cup: I saw my debut goal before I scored it - Asamoah Gyan

Former captain of the Black Stars, Asamoah Gyan, has revealed a remarkable premonition he had before scoring a historic goal for Ghana against the Czech Republic during the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

Gyan shared that he had a strong sense of confidence in his ability to score on the morning of the game.

In an interview on Onua TV on Monday, April 15, Gyan disclosed that he had confided in his brother, Baffour, about his premonition.

Baffour, who was returning to Ghana after narrowly missing out on the final squad despite being on the standby list, was the recipient of Gyan's prophetic revelation.

Ghana, having suffered a 2-0 defeat to Italy in their opening match of their debut World Cup, faced daunting odds against the Czech Republic, a team led by the formidable Pavel Nedved and considered a strong contender at the time.

However, Gyan's intuition proved accurate when, in the very first minute of the match, his strike found the back of the net, beating Czech goalkeeper Petr Cech.

Reflecting on the memorable goal, Gyan recounted his premonition, stating, "I told my brother in our hotel room that I feel I will score, so I told him to tell Ghanaians I will score. I saw it [before the game]."
