2010 World Cup: We were cheated against Uruguay, says ex-Ghana defender John Paintsil

Former Ghana international, John Paintsil, feels the Black Stars were cheated after the defeat to Uruguay at the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

After an intriguing 120 minute of action, Luis Suarez prevented Dominic Adiyah's added-time header from entering the net during a quarterfinals game.

However, Asamoah Gyan, who was Ghana's star man at the tournament missed the glorious opportunity to propel Ghana to play at the semifinals.

But according to the former West Ham and West Ham United right-back, a goal should have been awarded Ghana instead of a penalty.

“It was very difficult," Paintsil told Citi TV.

“I can’t remember walking to the team bus after this game.

“All I can recall is people telling us that we had done well and we had made Africa proud.

“We needed that lift but that is not what we were looking for.

“For me, I feel cheated. Look at the way he [Luis Suarez] used his hand to clear the ball, which is not fair.

“It was a cheat, because if his hand was down and the ball hit him, then we can say it was a ball to hand, but for you to lift your hand and clear the ball from the line, it has to be a goal," he concluded.

Ghana would have become the first African country to make it to the semi-finals of the World Cup should they have recorded a win.
