Asamoah Gyan has revealed he spoke to former President John Dramani Mahama on the phone 24/7 to ensure everything went well at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The tournament was famous for the then John Mahama government flying 3 million dollars to Brazil to settle the appearance fee of players via a chartered flight.

Asamoah reveals he did everything he had to do as a captain to resolve the issues, including speaking with the president on a consistent basis to sort out issues.

The Ghana all-time top scorer was full of praise for the former president.

“I did what I had to do; you know. I did everything behind the scene that a captain had to do. People, even some of the players didn't even know I was talking to the sitting president,” he told Joy Sports.

“That's former president of Ghana John Dramani Mahama.  He's a president that at this time I speak to him twenty-four seven on the phone.

“He was somebody that always calls me to ask about the team; very, very humble man, very, very good man, you know. Rather unfortunately he's not the president.

“NPP is in power now but I say it as it is, you know. I've worked with a lot of guys but he was the only one who was always on phone with me and he was the only one when I talked to him, he tries as much as possible to get the job done.
