2019/20 Ghana Premier League: Matchday 1 preview- Hearts of Oak vs Berekum Chelsea

Published on: 28 December 2019

Ghana Premier League giant Accra Hearts of Oak will play their first match in the 2019/2020 season against Berekum Chelsea at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The 20-time champions will welcome the 2010 champions to the capital city in a crunch meeting to set off their campaign in the new season.

Now under the tutelage of manager Kim Grant, the gaffer has been able to transform the team in the past year where he has managed to build a young but exciting and strong team.

On the side of Berekum Chelsea, they are in the hands of French tactician Landuet Alain Andre. The expatriate has been with the side in the off-season and will hope he gets the result over the Phobians this weekend.

On paper, Hearts of Oak looks the strongest but internal wrangling in the past week might cost them. In the last week, news of the board of the club asking head coach Kim Grant to step aside has been very unsettling.

While it is understood that the tactician has been given a five-match ultimatum, the pressure that comes with it might just be the team’s bane tomorrow when they face the Blues.

Players to look out for.

Obviously the Rainbow lads have some exciting players to look forward to with Academy products such as Michelle Sarpong and Manaf Umar having already proven that they can play at the top level.

Meanwhile, Joseph Esso will obviously be the man to change things in the match assuming he gets to play for the home team

For Berekum Chelsea they have signed former GPL goal king Kofi Owusu and will be hoping he gets to show his goal-scoring prowess on the matchday.

Prediction:

Hearts of Oak 2-0 Berekum Chelsea
