Published on: 28 December 2019

Obuasi-based Ashanti Gold is set to lock horns with Accra Great Olympics on Sunday, December 29, 2019, in the opening weekend of the 2019/2020 Ghana Premier League season.

The crucial opener for what will be a long season consisting of 18 clubs will be played at the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium where the Miners have made a fortress in recent times.

Currently without a head coach with the departure of Ricardo Da Rocha, assistant coach Yakubu Sheriff Mambo will be leading the Elephants to their home encounter with the side from Accra.

Olympics has returned to the Ghana Premier League after they were reinstated by Congress of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

They are determined to enjoy a successful season and has hence been preparing in the past couple of months to get their team ready.

Olympics have not been able to record a win over Ashgold at the Len Clay Sports Stadium since 2006 and do not look like that can end that drought. They can, however, fight for a draw with the Miners side that has seen a change in managerial hands.

The home team will be relying on the likes of Amos Addai, Abdul Latif Anabila, James Akaminko, Richard Osei Agyemang and the Brazilian playmaker Marco Aurelio Silva Damasceno who all impressed during the Normalization Committee Special Competition.

The away team on the other hand has been pretty busy in the transfer market where they have secured the services of experienced players such as Emmanuel Clottey, Godfred Saka, and Bernard Don Bortey.

Tomorrow’s game will surely be a cracker with all eyes expected to be on the Olympics side that has returned to the top-flight.

Prediction:

AshantiGold SC 2-0 Great Olympics
