A poor performance from Hearts of Oak on Sunday afternoon saw the team suffer a thumping 3-0 defeat at the hands of Karela United in the Ghana Premier League.

The Phobians this weekend travelled to Anyinase to face off with their Week 23 opponent of the Ghanaian top-flight league determined to win the game to enhance the chances of winning the league title.

Unfortunately, for the capital-based club, they faced a much superior side in Karela United. The home side dominated play for the most parts of the game and managed to score three goals to win the game.

In the game today, Karela United took the lead in the 17th minute through a strike from Emmanuel Owusu Boakye.

Later before the first half break, an own goal from Konadu Yiadom in the 32nd minute double the lead for the home team to take into the break.

To make matters worse for Hearts of Oak the team was reduced to 10 men before the break after Rashid Okine was shown a red card.

With Karela United taking advantage to put pressure on the visitors, the team scored a third in the 87th minute to kill the game when Richard Berko equalised.

The defeat has hindered Hearts of Oak’s chances of winning the league and increased Karela United’s chances of escaping relegation.
