FC Samartex 1996 secured a late victory, defeating King Faisal Football Club 2-0 at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex in Kumasi during a match in the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League (GPL) on Sunday afternoon.

The loss is a significant setback for the In Sha Allah lads, who are battling to maintain their position in the Ghanaian top flight.

The defeat leaves King Faisal still stuck in second-to-last place with 36 points from 31 games.

Meanwhile, Samartex has climbed from 9th to 6th position with 45 points, making a push for a top-four finish in their debut season in the Ghana Premier League.

With the game appearing to be heading towards a draw, Emmanuel Osei Owusu delivered a late opening goal for coach Annor Walker's team in the 86th minute.

Former Asante Kotoko midfielder Emmanuel Keyekeh scored a second goal for the visitors, sealing the game at 2-0.

King Faisal's next Ghana Premier League match will be against Legon Cities away at Tarkwa Akoon Park on matchday 32, taking place on Sunday, May 28.

As for Samartex 1996, they will play against Tamale City FC at the Aliu Mahama Stadium on the same day as the King Faisal game.
