2022/23 Ghana Premier League week 34: Legon Cities edge Samartex 3-2 to stay up

Legon Cities secured a 3-2 win over FC Samartex 1996 at the El Wak Sports Stadium on Sunday in match week 34 – final day of the season – to secure their top flight status for the next season.

The Royals scored twice in the first seven minutes of the game before adding a third in the second half when the visitors attempted to fight back.

Maxwell Konadu’s side finish the season 9th on the league log with 46 points – the same as Samartex – who ended the campaign a place behind Legon Cities.

Rahman Abdul fired Legon Cities into the lead after two minutes before Ebenezer Armegah added the second to put the Royals on the driving seat.

The visitors pulled one back after 34 minutes to put pressure on the hosts. Evans scored the consolation to end the half 2-1.

After the break, the looked like it was going to end 2-1 but there was late drama to come.

Michel Otou converted from the spot in the 82nd minute to give Leong Cities a 3-1 advantage but Emanuel Keyekeh scored six minutes later to end the game 3-2.
