2022 FIFA WC: Ghana has the quality to progress to knockout stage but it will be tough – Odartey Lamptey

Former Ghana forward, Nii Odartey Lamptey says he fears Ghana will be knocked out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup at the group stages.

According to him, although Ghana has the quality to progress to the knockout stages, facing Portugal and Uruguay makes it very difficult.

“The technical team is an excellent group: Otto [Addo], Boateng [George], Chris [Hughton], Didi [Dramani], very good blend, but the problem is a young squad which has never played a competition like this before.

“Maybe, ten of them have been to the [African] Cup of Nations before, but how many of them have played together in a tournament?

“So, playing very experienced countries, both Uruguay and Portugal, for me it’s a problem,” Nii Odartey Lamptey told Joy News in an interview.

The former Black Stars attacker continued, “I pray that we cross the group on the stage.

“We have the quality to progress beyond the group stage but my only question mark is the teams that we are facing.”

Besides Portugal and Uruguay, Ghana will also face South Korea in Group H of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
