2022 FIFA WC qualifiers: Abuja stadium to host Nigeria vs Ghana clash in March

MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuju is set to host Nigeria's game against Ghana in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in March, according to SCORENigeria.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have already inspected the stadium and it is expected the arena will soon get the green light to host the 2nd leg tie of the World Cup playoffs.

CAF have ruled out the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos, which has served as home ground for the Eagles, because it is not up to international standards.

Nigeria will renew their 71-year-old rivalry with their West African neighbours, Ghana when both battle for a single ticket to the global showpiece in Qatar.

CAF announced the epic pairing on Saturday in Douala, Cameroon during a draw in Douala, Cameroon.

This upcoming encounter is one that will be keenly watched by football fans in Accra and Abuja because of the known rivalry between the two countries.

Nigeria were stunned by Tunisia in the last 16 at the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon while the Black Stars of Ghana were kicked out of the tournament with one point and placed last in Group C.

The Super Eagles are seeking to qualify for the World Cup a 7th time and, since 1994, have missed only one of seven editions. The last of three appearances by Ghana was in 2014.

Four-time African champions Ghana will host the first leg with the reverse encounter in Nigeria, both to hold between 24th – 29th March.
