2022 FIFA WCQ: Benin to host Ghana vs Nigeria if CAF rejects Baba Yara stadium

Benin are likely to host Ghana vs Nigeria if the Confederation of African Football rejects GFA's request to use the Baba Yara Stadium for the first leg of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers later this month.

The crucial game has been scheduled to be staged at the Cape Coast Stadium in the Central Region of Ghana but the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) last week filed a petition to FIFA to complain about the poor state of the pitch.

The petition was attached with pictures of the pitch at the Cape Coast Stadium following the celebration of Ghana's 65th Independence on March 6.

With FIFA now concerned with the poor state of the pitch, the world football governing body is considering asking Ghana to move the first leg of the Nigeria tie to Benin.

Before that decision will be taken, CAF officials are expected to arrive in Ghana on Monday to conduct an inspection of the Cape Coast Stadium.

The report by the officials after the inspection will determine the final decision.
