2022 FIFA WCQ: Milovan Rajevac blames defence for Black Stars' draw against Ethiopia

Ghana coach, Milovan Rajevac has blamed the defence for Black Stars' draw 1-1 draw against Ethiopia in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Thursday.

Andre Ayew fired the Black Stars ahead from a free-kick midway through the first half.

But they were pegged back with 18 minutes left as Getaneh Kebede equalised for Ethiopia.

The result means Black Stars will need to beat South Africa, who won 1-0 against Zimbabwe later on Thursday in Cape Coast in their final match to have any chance of advancing into the playoffs as it stands.

“First, I would like to congratulate my players for fighting very hard. We were expecting a tough match today and I want to congratulate the Ethiopians for a very good performance and they deserved the result," coach Rajevac said after the game.

"We made some problems in defence and we made some mistakes. But everything will be decided on Sunday (against South Africa). It is important that we win by two clear goals if we want to make it to the playoffs.”

"Of course, the draw has distracted us a bit but we have to forget about it and think of the final match.

"Even if we won Ethiopia today, we would still need to beat South Africa on Sunday and so, we have to give our best, gather the troops and give a good performance in the last match.”

Black Stars are hoping to make a return to the global showpiece after missing out on the 2018 edition in Russia.
