The Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif has disclosed that the money Ghana was expecting to receive from FIFA after participating in the 2022 FIFA World Cup has arrived.

Speaking to Asempa FM in an engagement on the ‘Ekosii sen’ programme on Wednesday, July 26, the Minister said a total of $9 million have been received from the world football governing body.

According to him, there is an ongoing engagement with President Akufo-Addo to decide on what the money will be spent on.

“We are entitled to 9 million dollars per the stage we go to. We are now working on approval from the President to see what we will use the money for,” Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif said.

Meanwhile, the Minister has reacted to reports suggesting that Ghana plans to bid to host the 2038 FIFA World Cup.

He admits that at the moment, the country does not have the means to host the rest of the world.

Should anything change before 2038, he notes that government will consider making a bid.

“We are not yet ready to host the World Cup. If in the future we have the means including funding then we will consider it,” Mustapha Ussif said.
