2022 World Cup: Ex-West Ham ace John Paintsil confident Otto Addo can make Ghana competitive at tournament

Former West Ham and Fulham defender John Paintsil believes coach Otto Addo can make the senior national team of Ghana, the Black Stars competitive at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Black Stars have won just two of their 12 games this year, with coach Addo taking charge following a group-stage exit from the Africa Cup of Nations in January.

The 48-year-old qualified Ghana to the global showpiece after missing out on the 2018 edition in Russia and have been drawn in Group H alongside Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay.

"My expectation for Ghana is very, very high," Paintsil told BBC Sport Africa.

"Otto Addo and his staff know what they are looking for. The coaches must stand firm and believe in their abilities.

"Every coach should know his 1st XI at this time. The little time they will have with the boys, they will do their best to blend them and become one team."

Ghana will take on Portugal in their first game on November 24 before playing South Korea and Uruguay on November 28 and December 2 respectively.

Black Stars will play Switzerland in an International friendly on November 17, before travelling to Qatar for the World Cup.
