Former Asante Kotoko chairman, Herbert Mensah believes the Black Stars can still beat Nigeria in the 2022 World Cup playoff despite the horrendous 2021 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] campaign.
Ghana suffered an embarrassing campaign after exiting the 33rd edition of the AFCON at the group phase for the first time since 2006.
The Black Stars failed to a win a game and finished 4th in Group C with just a point.
With the team set to play Nigeria in the playoff of the Mundial in March, the former Asante Kotoko Chief Executive Officer [CEO] believes the Black Stars team can still beat the Super Eagles despite the poor campaign in Cameroon.
“We need to look and build, say this was a disaster, we have Nigeria next, and we have a country that traditionally we beat or we frustrate. Do we have what it takes to beat Nigeria? I think we do,” the experienced sports administrator said.
He also proposes that the Ghana FA appoints a competent coach to replace Milovan Rajevac.
Ghana will host Nigeria for the first leg before travelling to Abuja for the return encounter. The winner of the tie will book a place in the World Cup in Qatar later this year.
