2022 World Cup playoffs: Ighalo, Lookman train as Augustine Eguavoen rests starters after goalless draw against Ghana

Nigeria's non-starters against Ghana in the first leg of the 2022 FIFA World Cup final play-offs in Kumasi including Ademola Lookman and Odion Ighalo trained on Saturday at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja during the players’ recovery training.

Ghana and Nigeria renewed their 71-year rivalry at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi as the two sides faced off in the first leg encounter last Friday.

The Super Eagles held the Black Stars to a goalless draw.

During the training session, Emmanuel Dennis, Oghenekaro Etebo, Sadiq Umar, Shehu Abdullahi, Semi Ajayi, Calvin Bassey, Akinkunmi Amoo, Kenneth Omerou, Ademola Lookman, Odion Ighalo, Ahmed Musa, and Frank Onyeka played against each other while starters watched.

Goalkeepers Daniel Akpeyi and John Noble also trained separately while Francis Uzoho also watched proceedings from the sidelines.

The two West African countries will face each other in the second leg on Tuesday at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.

The winner of the tie will represent the continent at the World football showpiece which is scheduled to take place from November 21 to December 18.

The Super Eagles are seeking to qualify for the global showpiece a 7th time and, since 1994, have missed only one of seven editions. The last of three appearances by Ghana was in 2014.
