Dutch-born Ghanaian defender, Leeroy Owusu is set to be named in Black Stars squad for the 2022 World Cup playoff games against Nigeria, Footballghana.com can confirm.

The Willem II right-back has been on a fine form in the ongoing Dutch Eredivisie.

Owusu has made 22 appearances for the club in the ongoing season.

With Otto Addo set to name his squad for the crucial games, Owusu has earned a place in the squad.

Addo held talks with the right-back and is convinced he is the best option to compete with Andy Yiadom for the right-back position.

Owusu has featured for Netherlands U17, U18, U19 and U20 teams but has never received an invitation from the senior national team and is eligible to play for Ghana.

Black Stars will lock horns with Nigeria in late March for a place at the World Cup in Qatar which kicks off in November this year.

Ghana will host the first leg on March 25 at the Cape Coast Stadium with the return leg scheduled for Abuja.

The Black Stars are seeking to return to the Mundial for the fourth time having missed out in the last edition in Russia in 2018.
