2022 World Cup playoffs: We cannot allow the Ghanaian players freedom on the ball - Eguavoen warns Super Eagles

Nigeria coach Augustine Eguavoen has warned his side not to underestimate Ghana ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup final play-offs second leg tie.

The two West African countries played out a goalless draw in the first leg at the Baba Yara Sports stadium in Kumasi last Friday.

Nigeria must win their match against Ghana in Abuja at the Moshood Abiola Stadium for a ticket to Qatar 2022.

Speaking ahead of the game, coach Eguavoen said, "Ghana were on top of their game in the first leg but they didn't have any clear-cut chances - but we had two clear-cut chances."

"Ghana are not pushovers, they have a lot of talent. We will keep respecting them and I'm very sure the Ghana team will give us a lot of respect.

"We wanted to win the first leg but if we couldn't win I would have settled for a draw and that's exactly what happened. Our organisation was very good, we combined well in all the lines.

"But we didn't react quickly, so that's something we have to work on because we cannot allow the Ghanaian players freedom on the ball," he added.

The winner of the tie will represent the continent at the World football showpiece which is scheduled to take place from November 21 to December 18.

The Super Eagles are seeking to qualify for the global showpiece a 7th time and, since 1994, have missed only one of seven editions. The last of three appearances by Ghana was in 2014.
