Senegal's football association FSF has extended the contract with national coach Aliou Cisse shortly before the World Cup by two more years until 2024. The FSF officially made the announcement on Thursday.

The 46-year-old has been managing the African champions since 2015. Cisse will announce his squad for Qatar on Friday, although it is uncertain whether the injured Bayern star Sadio Mane will be called up.

Senegal meets the Netherlands, Ecuador, and the hosts in Group A at the World Cup in the Gulf state.

Cisse is best known for being the first Senegal captain to reach the Africa Cup of Nations final in 2002 and the first Senegal manager to win the tournament in 2022 after reaching the final in 2019.

Cisse was also part of the Senegal team who were the runners-up in the 2002 African Cup of Nations. He was the assistant coach of the Senegalese under-23 side from 2012 to 2013.

The former PSG defender made 35 appearances for Senegal before retiring.
