2022 World Cup: We feel like it is our opportunity to get a revenge - Gyan on Uruguay tie

Published on: 22 November 2022

Asamoah Gyan says Ghanaians cannot wait for Black Stars' third group game against Uruguay at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

According to the 37-year-old, the game feels like a revenge after the two countries were paired in the Group H of the global showpiece.

Black Stars were eliminated by the two-time champions on penalties in South Africa, having seen Asamoah Gyan miss an extra-time spot-kick after Luis Suarez was sent off for handball.

Ghana take on Portugal in their first game in Group H on November 24 before playing South Korea and Uruguay on November 28 and December 2 respectively.

"Everyone in Ghana is waiting for the game against Uruguay because of what happened in 2010. We feel like it is our opportunity to get a revenge," Gyan told Talksport and online sports radio.

Gyan is the all-time leading goalscorer of Ghana, with 51 goals and is also the top African goalscorer in the history of the World Cup with six goals.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup takes place between November 20 and December 18, 2022.

Only three sides from the continent have ever progressed to the quarter-finals; Cameroon in 1990, Senegal in 2002, and Ghana in 2010.

Ghana will be hoping to progress from the group stage at this year's tournament.

Black Stars exited the group stage at the 2014 edition in Brazil after a slow start to the tournament.
