Karela United FC showcased their dominance over their Tamale counterparts, Real Tamale United, in an electrifying 2023/24 Ghana Premier League week 22 clash on Sunday.

The Pride and Passion lads secured their third consecutive home win at the Naa Sheriga Sports Complex in Nalerigu, edging out their city rivals 3-2 in a thrilling encounter.

The match kicked off with Karela setting the tempo, with forward Ibrahim Giyas breaking the deadlock in the 12th minute.

Giyas continued his stellar performance, netting again in the 33rd minute to extend Karela’s lead, marking his third goal in two consecutive home games.

However, Real Tamale United, led by midfielder Baba Kushibo, fought back valiantly. Kushibo levelled the score with two quick-fire goals in the 37th and 42nd minutes, setting the stage for an intense second half.

As the clock ticked down, Karela dug deep, ultimately clinching victory with a late goal two minutes from full-time, courtesy of Solomon Aboagye.

Despite the triumph, Karela remains in the 15th position on the league standings, hovering just above the relegation zone. Nonetheless, they have managed to widen the gap, securing a four-point cushion from the danger zone.

Meanwhile, Real Tamale United’s woes deepened with this defeat, as they continue to languish at the bottom of the league table with 19 points from 22 matches.
