The 27th week of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season witnessed a thrilling draw between Karela United and Accra Lions at the Naa Sheriga Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon.
Prior to the match, Karela United was positioned at the 16th spot with 30 points, while Accra Lions was comfortably seated in the 5th place with 39 points. Both teams showcased a strong desire to control the midfield from the onset, resulting in a competitive first half. Despite the efforts of the attackers, neither team could find the back of the net as the first half ended in a stalemate.
The second half saw both sides making tactical adjustments and changes to their lineup. Karela United came close to scoring in the 49th minute when captain Fataw Mohammed's free kick was brilliantly saved by the goalkeeper, tipping the ball over for a corner.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 79th minute by Karela United's Mohammed Asigri, who struck the ball inside the box to give his team a 1-0 lead.
However, the celebration was short-lived as Accra Lions responded immediately. Dominic Amponsah scored the equalizer in the 80th minute to make it 1-1.
In their next league games, Karela United will face Aduana Stars, while Accra Lions will lock horns with Accra Hearts of Oak.
