In highly competitive clash on Sunday, the embattled Real Tamale United and league leaders Samartex locked horns in matchday 29 of the Ghana Premier League.

The Pride of the North made their home advantage count after beating Samartex to end their two game winless streak in the Ghanaian top-flight.

RTU went into the game without a substantive coach following the departure of Abdul Mumin Abdulai, whom the club labeled match fixing scandal against him after their 2-1 home defeat to Nsoatreman FC.

The Tamale-based club, who sit bottom on the Ghana Premier League table showed resilience and determination to snatch maximum points against the Timber giants at the Aliu Mahama Stadium.

In-form Evans Osei Wusu returned to the starting lineup for Samartex after missing the previous game due to suspension. But he could not help his outfit to escape defeat in Tamale.

RTU shot into the lead in the 43rd minute mark and went to recess with the advantage.

And with no additional goal, the home team cruised to victory to merit the three maximum points at stake.

Despite the win, RTU remains bottom on the Premier League table with 28 points after 28 matches into the campaign. It is important to note RTU have an outstanding game against Dreams FC due to the Africa campaign.

With five games to end the season, the Tamale-based club chances of escaping relegation looks slim.

Meanwhile, Samartex are still on top of the league log with 52 points after 29 games so far this season.
