2023 AFCON: Black Stars coach Chris Hughton reportedly submits 50-man provisional lists to Ghana FA

Black Stars coach Chris Hughton has reportedly submitted a 50-man provisional squad to the Ghana Football Association for assessment.

According to Kumasi-based Wontumi FM, the former Premier League manager included five home-based players in his provisional lists.

Some home-based players including Kotoko's Richmond Lamptey, Hearts of Oak duo of Salifu Ibrahim and Kelvin Osei Asibey, and Stephen Banahene of Bibiani Goldstars have received massive endorsement from top football personalities for their inclusion in the Black Stars squad for the continental showpiece next month.

However, the purported inclusion of five local players in the Black Stars provisional lists does not come as a surprise.

The squad will be pruned down to the required number for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament. The provisional list is expected to be announced in the coming days.

Ghana have a history of success in the AFCON, having won the title four times, most recently in 1982. However, they have experienced defeat in three finals since then, including losses to Ivory Coast in 1992 on penalties and Egypt in 2010, as well as a repeat defeat to Ivory Coast in 2015.
