Cameroon's national football team coach, Rigobert Song, revealed the final squad set to represent the country in the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).
The squad, comprising 27 players, reflects a strategic blend of experience and youthful exuberance, with notable inclusions and surprising omissions capturing the spotlight.
The unveiled list announced on Thursday, features a dynamic mix of players, including two promising local talents who have earned their stripes in domestic competitions. Leonel Ateba from Dynamo FC de Douala and William Nathan Douala from Victoria United have emerged as the standout choices from the local scene.
Intriguingly, the squad also includes ten players who played pivotal roles in Cameroon's 2021 Afcon campaign.
However, the absence of Bayern Munich striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has raised eyebrows.
Cameroon has been paired alongside Guinea, Senegal, and Gambia in Group C of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The 2023 Afcon will be held in Ivory Coast from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
