2023 AFCON Qualifiers: Ghana dealt blow as Tariq Lamptey is ruled out of Angola clash

Ghana have suffered a major blow ahead of the 2033 Africa Cup of Nations qualifications against Angola as Tariq Lamptey has been ruled out

The 22-year-old picked up an injury whiles in action for Brighton in the English Premier League against West Ham United.

The right-back has been out of action for Brighton since March 4 after sustaining a knee injury.

Despite picking up injury, Lamptey was named in the Chris Hughton’s 25-man squad for the Angola showdown.

Having failed to recover, the defender has been ruled out of the Ghana clash against Angola.

However, FC Koln defender Kingsley Schindler has been handed a late Ghana call up to replace injured Tariq Lamptey.

The 29-year-old who is yet to cap for the Black Stars arrived in Ghana on Monday night to join his teammates for the qualifiers.

The four-time African champions face Palancas Negras on Thursday in a match many expect to be difficult as both sides seek to maintain their unbeaten start to the qualifiers.

The Black Stars are unbeaten in Kumasi for the past two decades and are heavy favourites to defeat Angola before travelling to Luanda for the second match.

Ghana leads the qualifying group after a draw and a win in their first two games, but Angola is close behind, and two wins will give the Black Stars a solid chance to qualify.
