2023 AFCON qualifiers: Reverse fixture in Angola was difficult – Ati-Zigi

Published on: 29 March 2023

Ghana goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi has said the Black Stars’ 1-1 draw in Luanda against Angola in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying doubleheader reverse fixture was difficult.

The St. Gallen goalkeeper was instrumental as Ghana came from behind to draw 1-1 in at the 11th November Stadium in Luanda on Monday, March 27, 2023.

Lucas Joao gave the home side the lead from the spot in 51 minutes after Daniel Amartey had given away a penalty just after the break.

Effective changes from head coach Chris Hughton saw Joseph Paintsil produce an impressive cut-back to tee up Osman Bukari for the equalizer in the 72nd minute.

Lawrence Ati-Zigi has now taken to Instagram to share his thoughts about the game. “Difficult game but we fought so hard to get a point …We keep going.”

He was excellent for Ghana again in the first leg at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium and has now more than justified why he should be Ghana’s first choice goalkeeper.
