2023 Africa Cup of Nations: All eliminated favorites and others should be respected - CAF President Motsepe

In the midst of disappointment over the early exits of football powerhouses from the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), stood firm in demanding respect for the eliminated favorites and other countries.

In a resolute address delivered at a press conference held this Friday within the confines of the Palais de la Culture in Treichville, Motsepe underscored the significance of acknowledging the valiant efforts of nations such as Algeria, Ghana, and Tunisia, who succumbed to premature elimination in the tournament's initial stages.

Senegal, the reigning African champion, too found themselves kicked out of contention as early as the round of 16. Yet, for Motsepe, despite their unanticipated setbacks, these formidable teams merit unwavering respect.

“I think nations like Ghana, Egypt, Senegal, Tunisia, Algeria and all the great nations should be respected for everything they have achieved," he said.

“The difference today is that most of these small nations have invested a lot to be competitive,” he added.
