President Bola Tinubu honoured the Super Eagles of Nigeria on Tuesday with national accolades, including the Member of the Order of the Niger (MON), flats in the Federal Capital Territory, and a parcel of land.

The announcement came as President Tinubu hosted the players and officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) at the Council Chamber in the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Leading the delegation was the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh.

The Super Eagles, who secured the runner-up position in the recently concluded African Cup of Nations (AFCON), were present at the ceremony, attired in green. Among them was Alex Iwobi, who had faced online attacks following Nigeria's loss to Côte d’Ivoire in the final.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu praised the team, coach, crew, and management for their dedication and perseverance throughout the tournament. He acknowledged the obstacles they overcame, culminating in an impressive performance leading up to the finals.

Encouraging Nigerians to remain resilient, President Tinubu highlighted the nation's victory in capturing the hearts of Africa and the world through their determination on the field.

"We should not be disheartened by this recent event but rather come together and strive harder. As a nation, we are united by the green-white-green banner of resilience, joy, hope, duty, and unwavering love," remarked the president.

Addressing the Nigerian youth, Tinubu urged them to continue pursuing their dreams, emphasizing the potential for future heroes to emerge from grassroots football. He reassured them of his administration's commitment to supporting their aspirations.
