2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers: Jojo Wollacott set to miss Ghana v CAR clash due to injury

Published on: 10 August 2023

Goalkeeper Jojo Wollacott could miss Ghana's final game against the Central African Republic (CAR) due to a thigh injury.

The 26-year-old sustained during his debut match for Hibernian against Andorran side Inter d’Escaldes last Thursday.

Although he has undergone a scan, the full extent of the injury is pending confirmation by the surgeon's review.

However, there is concern that the injury could keep him out of action for around six weeks, and potentially even longer if it involves a tendon.

Wollacott's debut for Hibernian was short-lived. After just 18 minutes on the pitch, he had to be substituted due to the injury.

The goalkeeper's debut injury is a disappointment for him and the team, considering his recent move to Hibernian from Charlton Athletic on a three-year deal.

And with Ghana set to host CAR at the Baba Yara Stadium in the final round of games in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers on September 7, Wollacott could miss the game due to the injury.

Ghana need a draw or win to cement its place in the AFCON that will be hosted in Ivory Coast next year.
