2023 African Games: Expectations are high for Ghana as host - Black Satellites Coach

The head coach of Ghana’s U20 national team, Desmond Ofei, says expectations from Ghanaians are high for his team to do well at the 2023 African Games as the host nation.

The Black Satellites will open their campaign against Congo at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday afternoon in their Group A opener.

At the last African Games in 2019, Ghana did not progress from the group stage after finishing third in Group B behind Mali and Senegal.

Speaking at the press conference on Thursday, Desmond Ofei said his team is well prepared for the tournament.

"Every tournament is different but we are playing at home and expectations are high. We are ready to give our very best and let’s see how the tournament goes.”

The team must first top or finish second in Group A that also has Congo, The Gambia, and Benin before thinking about the title.

Ghana has won one gold medal in the football competition and two bronze medals in the 65 years of the African Games.
