2023 U23 AFCON: ‘We are ready for the challenge against Ghana’ - Congo Coach

Published on: 25 June 2023

Ghana and Congo are set to clash in their opening match at the 2023 U23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Sunday afternoon at the Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat.

Congo's coach, Cyril Ndonga, expressed confidence in his team's preparation for the upcoming challenge against Ghana. The Congolese team is determined to make amends after being eliminated in the group stage of the African Nations Championship and losing in the quarter-finals of the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations on penalties.

Despite narrowly missing out on a historic qualification for the U-20 World Cup, the Congolese team feels entrusted with a mission and has spared no effort in their preparations. Ndonga highlighted the importance of learning from past experiences and focusing on the mental aspect of the game.

"We arrived in Moroccan territory with noble ambitions. We have been drawn into a tough group, and we must fight match after match with the same determination.

“After the U-20 AFCON, we decided to work more on the mental aspect. The players are well-prepared for this new challenge," stated Ndonga.

Both Ghana and Congo will be eager to start their campaign on a positive note and secure a crucial victory in their opening match of the tournament.
