2024 WAFU B U17 Cup of Nations: Beating Cote d’Ivoire in opening game important – Kurt Okraku

The President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku, says a win against Cote d’Ivoire in the Black Starlets’ 2024 WAFU B U17 Cup of Nations opening game is very import.

The team is set to kick off their title quest on home soil at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Wednesday at 4 pm.

Kurt Okraku visited the team ahead this evening’s game and charged them to beat Ivory Coast in their first game.

"I believe that no matter what the opposition throws at us, we'll be patient, we'll play according to our style, we'll control the game according to our style, and we'll win," he said.

"I want to see not 11 leaders on the pitch, I also want to see 11 leaders on the bench. Leaders who believe in each other, trust each other and stay with each other. Victory is important."

The team hasn't made it to the tournament for seven years. They last qualified for the competition in 2017, securing second place and earning a spot in the World Cup.

Additionally, the team hasn't qualified for any of the last six U17 AFCONs, intensifying the pressure on them.
