2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers: Black Stars fear they will get injured on bad Ghanaian pitches - Karim Zito

Dreams FC Head Coach Abdul Karim Zito believes that Black Stars players are not always giving their best when playing for Ghana because they fear injury on the poor-quality pitches in Ghana.

He made this statement after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) banned Baba Yara Stadium from hosting CAF Category Three matches.

CAF withdrew approval for the stadium due to "persistent issues," so Ghana will likely play their matchday 3 and 4 fixtures of the 2025 AFCON Qualifiers away from home.

The Ghana FA must now find an alternative venue outside Ghana for next month’s matches.

“When you go into the coaching aspect and consider the factors affecting performance, the field plays a part," Zito said as quoted by Joy Sports.

“Our players are used to quality pitches outside, so they feel uncomfortable when they come home to play, as they are afraid of getting injured. If you look at the goal we conceded against Angola, the intention was from Abdul Mumin was right, but the pitch caused him to miskick,” he said.
