Deputy Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Bawa Majeed says Otto Addo must be blamed for Ghana's defeat to Angola and not the state of the Baba Yara Stadium pitch.

Ghana kicked off their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers with a 1-0 defeat against the Palancras Negras.

Ahead of the game, the state of the pitch dominated the media space due to its poor state and after the game, the NSA were blamed for the defeat.

However, reacting to these remarks, Bawa Majeed feels there was nothing wrong with the pitch since it was approved by CAF before and furthered on by affirming the Angolans played on the same grounds and not in the sky.

He furthered on by saying the blame should rather be directed to the technical team who failed to effect substitutions early in the game.

“Are they suggesting that the Angolans were playing in the sky? They are all footballers,” Bawa told Asempa FM.

“Those they assembled to play against the Black Stars are professionals. We assembled our professionals. They all played on the same pitch. So CAF has inspected the pitch and approved it for the game.

“Let's just look at what happened. We might not be coaches but we follow and understand football. We all suspected and wanted, even the fans themselves were agitating for change in the 60th minute."

Ghana will face Niger in their second Group F game on Monday, September 9, against Niger in Berkane.

Meanwhile, the NSA have announced the closure of the Baba Yara Stadium for a month renovation works after the game.
