Asante Kotoko goalkeeper, Fredrick Asare, has described being named in the Black Stars squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against the Central African Republic and Mali as an achievement.

The former Accra Lions goalkeeper was the only Ghana Premier League player to be named in the 26-man squad announced on Wednesday by Otto Addo for the crucial qualifiers.

Reacting to his call-up to the senior national team for the second time, Asare was overjoyed.

“Around the world, even in Europe, Asia, Africa, we have Ghanaian goalkeepers over there. Even also in Ghana here, we have good goalkeepers,” he said in an interview played on Asemapa FM.

“But for me to be called to the national team by a coach and also his compliment to me, it's a good achievement to me and I am truly happy for me to represent my country.”

Ghana will face Mali in the third round of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup on Thursday in Bamako before taking on the Central African Republic four days later in Kumasi.

Ghana currently sits fourth in Group I with three points, three behind leaders Comoros.
