2027 Women's World Cup: Brazil wins bid to host competition at FIFA Congress in Bangkok

Brazil has been confirmed as the host nation for the 2027 Women's World Cup, winning the rights over a joint bid by the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany (BNG).

In a landmark decision, Brazil becomes the first South American nation to host the prestigious tournament, following a resounding vote at FIFA's congress in Bangkok on Friday.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino extended congratulations to Brazil, expressing confidence in their ability to deliver an exceptional World Cup experience.

Despite commendations for the BNG bid, Brazil clinched victory with 119 votes in favor against 78 for the joint bid.

This announcement follows the withdrawal of joint bids from the United States and Mexico in April, focusing on a bid for the 2031 tournament, and South Africa's withdrawal in November.

Brazil, known for its rich football heritage, previously hosted the men's World Cup in 1950 and 2014.

The 2027 Women's World Cup will adhere to the familiar 32-team format, following the success of the 2023 edition in Australia and New Zealand, where Spain emerged victorious over England in the final.
