4 Classic Clashes Between Liverpool and Tottenham Ahead of Saturday's Crunch Encounter

Liverpool vs Tottenham has brought out some fantastic matches in Premier League history, with both sides always fighting out till the final whistle. The importance of Saturday's match at Anfield will continue to shape the remainder of the season for both teams as they look to secure Champions League spots and keep the pressure on league leaders Chelsea.


In what many fans will be hoping is another classic encounter between the two sides, here'sa look back at some of the most memorable matches between Liverpool and Tottenham in recent history.

Liverpool 3-2 Tottenham (2015)

Following the season that saw them come close to winning the league, a Suarez-lessLiverpool were revived - taking 33 points from a possible 39 as Brendan Rodgers tried to rally his troops.


Tottenham were starting to show signs of improvement under Mauricio Pochettino and were looking to claim the scalp of Liverpool to kickstart their rise. The match was a close encounter throughout, with LazarMarkovic opening the scoring for the Reds, though that was quickly cancelled out by Harry Kane.


Steven Gerrard would give Liverpool the lead from the penalty spot, but yet again Spurs found the back of the net through Mousa Dembele. However, the major talking point from this encounter was that Liverpool signing and all around footballing bad boy Mario Balotelli would open his account for the Reds, scoring the winner seven minutes from time.

Tottenham 0-5 Liverpool (2013)

Liverpool showed their intent to claim the Premier League title as Luis Suarez was running rampant in the league, and gave boss Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool fans a reason to smile going into the new year.


The Reds talisman was in red hot form and demolished through Andre Villas-Boas side, scoring a brace. Fellow teammates Jon Flanagan, Jordan Henderson and Raheem Sterling also got amongst the scoring that day, but the individual efforts of Suarez took all the headlines.


The five-goaldefeat saw the end of Villas-Boas' time at White Hart Lane, as the manager was dismissed a matter of hours after the full-time whistle.


Tottenham 4-0 Liverpool (2011)

Harry Redknapp's firing Tottenham made short work of a depleted Liverpool side in this encounter, with new signing Emmanuel Adebayor introducing himself to White Hart Lane with a brace.


Current Real Madrid duo Gareth Bale and Luka Modric punished a dejected Liverpool defence with a goal a piece and left Red's fans fuming with their side's defensive efforts.

Liverpool 1-2 Tottenham (1995)

One match that showed a mutual respect for football was the FA Cup quarter-final clash between Liverpool and Tottenham in March 1995.


Robbie Fowler opened the scoring for the hosts with a header. However, Spurs striker Teddy Sheringham levelled the scoring with a fantastic curling effort from outside the box flying past David James.


In what was a match that both sides battled out to the very end, Tottenham would claim victory in the last 90 seconds of the match as Sheringham released Jurgen Klinsmann, who found the back of the net.


The result left Anfield in awe of the match, with the home side giving Spurs a standing ovation for their efforts at the conclusion of the match.

While both fans will hope their teams can walk out of Anfield with the victory, many will hope for another classic encounter between the two sides once again.
