6 of the Best Moments From a Fascinating Weekend of Premier League & FA Cup Action

Published on: 12 March 2017

With that pesky FA Cup competition returning to disrupt a number of Premier League fixtures this weekend, there were only four league matches for fans to enjoy.

Liverpool tightened their grip on fourth with an 'ugly'win over Burnley, whilst there were big wins at the other end of the table for beleaguered Bournemouth and Hull City.

The FA Cup meanwhile was perhaps more routine, than spectacular, as Arsenal proved too much for non-league Lincoln City, Spurs battered Millwall (on the pitch) and goal-shy Middlesbrough crashed out with a wimper to Manchester City.

There many have only been a handful of matches, but there were still plenty of talking points from another intriguing weekend of action.....

Best Goal

Josh King's goal for Bournemouthdeserves a mention here, but seeing as he may be one of the most unpopular men currently on Merseyside, Emre Can's low drive against Burnley claims the weekend's best goal award.

The German drilled a 25-yard strike into the bottom right hand corner to give Jurgen Klopp's side an underwhelming victory which not only solidified the Reds' place in the top four, but will keep Can's own doubters quiet for a day at least.

Best Assist

Same game, different team. Burnley took a shock lead at Anfield through Ashley Barnes but though it was a neatly taken finish, Matthew Lowton's exquisite pass made for a simple finish.

As has often been the case this season, Liverpool's defence was carved open by Lowton's through ball that was just about perfect in every way. When Gary Neville is purring about it on commentary, you know it's a cracker.

Best Impersonations of an England Player Taking a Penalty

If Josh King's penalty miss against West Ham was careless, then Benik Afobe's was just rubbish. Both men proved to be utterly hopeless from 12 yards as they missed spot-kicks in the first half of the Cherries' 3-2 win over West Ham.

King drove his wide of goal, whilst Afobe stuttered and stumbled before placing a tame effort straight at Darren Randolph. The Cherries' persistence should be applauded as they eventually ran out winners, but their penalty taking leaves a lot to be desired and wouldn't be out of place on a highlights reel of England's worst spot-kicks.

Best Substitution

Managers rarely get praise for doing much right, but Hull boss Marco Silva played a blinder by bringing Oumar Niasse on as a substitute against Swansea.

Having been on the pitch for 15 minutes, the striker had two goals to his name and proved to be the match-winner as the Tigers claimed a crucial three points that keeps their survival hopes very much alive.

Best Anti-Wenger Banner

"WEXIT."

A soft Wexit or hard Wexit?

Can Arsenal fans hold a referendum of their own? Will we see the events of 2016 unfold all over again? Will pro-Wenger supporters be allowed to stay at the Emirates if article four(th)is triggered by Wexiteers?

There are endless questions that need to be asked what Wexit really means, but with the Gunners' faithful tearing themselves apart, let's just sit back and enjoy whatever comes next from these mad old protests.

Best FA Cup Moment

That's right, he only went and scored in open play!

It only took him 30 matches, but Tottenham striker Vincent Janssen has actually scored a goal that didn't come from the penalty spot. The disbelief inside White Hart Lane was palpable, as the Dutchman made fans temporarily forget that star man Harry Kane is facing a spell on the sidelines through injury.

Millwall never really threatened to cause an upset on Sunday, but Janssen sparked one of his own to score Spurs' fifth goal andprove the magic of the FA cup is very muchstill alive.
