60 percent of current Black Stars players are not playing well - Asamoah Gyan

Former Ghana striker, Asamoah Gyan has expressed his worry over the current Black Stars players invited for the Madagascar game.

Chris Hughton, who is the head coach of the side has named a 24-man squad for the matchday five games of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers scheduled on June 18.

However, Gyan, who is the country's all-time leading goalscorer has expressed his worry over the players invited for the task.

According to him, 60 per cent of the current players are not playing well at the various clubs.

Despite the lamentations, the 39-year-old called for support for the team ahead of the game.

"We have got a young team that is doing. The truth hurt because we have some playing whose team got relegated," he told Accra-based Asempa FM as monitored by Footballghana.com.

"Some key players are not in good form and they are not playing well and it is a problem.

"Over 60 per cent of the key players are declining but that is what we have because the national team is different from club football.

"The call-up is excellent and we all have to support them because we are all fans now.

"I think they must psyche themselves up because it will be a difficult game," he added.

The Black Stars will open camp on June 12 before flying to Madagascar for the game on Sunday, June 18.
