A Man Utd Flop Is Outperforming His Former Teammates This Season But There's a Catch

Published on: 19 December 2016

Jose Mourinho's Manchester United squad have gotten off to a bit of a slow start in attack this season, with only Zlatan Ibrahimovic really firing on a regular basis of late.

But just as things were starting to look up, a slightly unfavourable stat has popped up - if 'unfavourable' is a strong enough word to describe the fact that former Old Trafford flop Bebe is outperforming every single United attacking player so far this season...

Ish.

Now playing for Eibar in the Spanish top flight, the 26-year-old has a better ratio of league goals/assists to minutes played than anybody in United's squad, contributing to a goal every 96.25 minutes compared to United's leading man Ibrahimovic, who has contributed to a goal once every 130.9 minutes.

No other United player breaks the 135 minute mark.

So, is it time for Mourinho to go crawling on his hands and knees to the Basque Country to try and convince his countryman to return to the Premier League?

11 - Only Ruud van Nistelrooy (12) scored more goals in his first 16 PL apps for Man Utd than Ibrahimovic (11 - also RVP and Cole). King.

In a word...no. As nice as Bebe's stats look, they're just that - stats alone; it works in the same way that a certain quirk in the numbers might 'show' thatKelechi Iheanacho has been a 'better' striker for Manchester City than Sergio Aguero.

Bebe has played less than 400 minutes all season, compared to Zlatan's 1440; those 400 minutes have come from nine appearances (five starts), averaging less than 43 minutes a go. Not once has he completed 90 minutes.

The stats don't lie.
