James Rodriguez reportedly agrees with Barcelona's target man Lionel Messi that he should leave Real Madrid to save his career, reports theExpress.

The Colombian international has been linked with a move away from the Spanish super power after struggling to receive game time under manager Zinedine Zidane.

Despite a £63m move to Madrid from Monaco, after a brilliant display in the 2014 world cup, Rodriguez has failed to reach his potential making just six starts out his 13 league appearances this season.

While Barcelona sensation Lionel Messi is a massive rival for Real Madrid he has taken an interest in Rodriguez's position, and according to Spanish outletDon Balon,he has expressed his confusion as to how the Colombian is being left in the background.

It is said that Messi declared if he was in Rodriguez's boots he would leave the club as he could join any other team and be an undisputed starter and main player.

Rodriguez, however, has made it clear publicly that he wishes to stay at the Bernabeu and fight for his place in the team.

He said: "When I am given opportunities I always try and do well. This is all I think about.

I want to always be here. It's clear that in life and football you never know what is going to happen but I want to remain here."

Don Balon added however that the pair have spoken and agreed multiple times over the decision and the belief is that the duo have concluded Rodriguez could become one of the world's best players, but not at Real Madrid.
