Uganda's Serbian coach Milutin 'Micho' Sredojevic has allayed fears that goalkeeper Denis Onyango could miss his side's Afcon opener against Ghana after the goalkeeper had trouble with his groin in Ivory Coast friendly.

Onyango rated as the best Goalkeeper in Africa, suffered a groin injury in a pre-Afcon friendly against Ivory Coast on Wednesday and was withdrawn at half time.

Despite the injury, Coach Micho is confident Onyango will be ready for the Ghana duel claiming the injury was mild.

“Onyango pullout from the team was a precautionary measure,” said the Serbian coach, “He was training hard in goalkeeping aspect, and played in training as striker to get fit. “Happy for him that he kept clean sheet as his confidence, being pillar of the team, is Uganda Cranes’ confidence.”

The Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper is ranked 10th in the world ahead of Arsenal and Barcelona goalkeepers by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS) with 5 points.

He was in post when the Black Stars failed to score against Uganda in the 0-0 World cup qualifier in Tamale.

The Cranes will begin their Afcon 2017 campaign against the Black Stars on January 17 and will cherish the moment of having their captain in post.
