The Black Stars of Ghana showed class and determination to beat the Djurtus of Guinea Bissau 2-0 at the Suez Stadium on Tuesday afternoon to secure qualification into the round of 16 of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

Ghana stepped up to perform on top level after drawing all two of her previous group games at the tournament to ensure she won convincingly to progress into the next phase.

The losers who didn’t play bad on the day came close to taking the lead on the 18th minute but star player Piquitti’s effort found the frame of the crossbar instead of the back of the net.

Later on, Black Stars striker Jordan Ayew was presented with a golden opportunity to break the deadlock of the match but his low driven effort hit the woodwork.

Both sets of attackers had a couple of decent chances to score but failed to capitalize as referee Eric Arnaud Otogo-Castane whistled to bring the first 45 minutes to a close.

Just a minute after resuming play, Jordan Ayew equalized with a fine goal after curling his effort into the top corner. He went past his marker before unleashing an unstoppable strike past Djurtus goalkeeper Jonas Mendes.

From there on, Ghana dominated play in search of a second goal to see off their opponent. Atletico Madrid star did just that and slotted home a good low cross from Baba Rahman on the 76th minute.

Ghana eventually won the match with a 2 goal cushion to see them emerge as Group F leaders at the round of the preliminary stage.

In the other group match which was played simultaneously, Benin held Cameroon to a goalless draw at the Ismailia Stadium.
